Although the access to the library funds is mainly reserved to the University’s academic stuff, students and visiting scholars, Library’s exhibition centre is open to the public and is accessible to local schools and colleges by prior arrangement.

Cambridge University Rare Books Department possesses an important collection of Russian journals, books, posters and other items, received in 2004 as a bequest from a distinguished Cambridge academician, Catherine Cooke, and known as The Catherine Cooke collection. The main focus of the collection is on the rare publications on Russian art, architecture and design. All in all the collection holds 1200 books, 138 journal titles (however, many are only single or a few issues), 220 maps and postcards and 145 posters.
